Val d'Ega, between Carezza and Obereggen
The valley is surrounded in the north by the massif Sciliar, in the east by the chain of Catinaccio and in the south by the massif of Latemar.
On one side of the valley there are the villages of Nova Levante, Carezza and more distant Collepietra, Tires, and S. Cipriano, on the other side there are situated Nova Ponente, Obereggen, Ega and Monte S. Pietro.
The lake of Carezza is known for its beautiful colours and in its crystal clear water dense forests and mountains that surround the lake are reflected. Thanks to its fabulous walks within its surroundings it is one of the classic tourist destinations of South Tyrol, in summer as well as in winter.
In winter, the numerous and well-prepared slopes of the two ski areas Carezza Ski and Obereggen/ Ski Center Latemar, equipped with modern lifts and, if necessary, artificial snow, ensure fun for all skiers. With the Dolomiti ski pass you can enjoy all the slopes of the two areas.
The area Nova Levante-Carezza, in a panoramic position at the foot of the Rosengarten, offers sunny slopes and is particularly ideal for families. The ski pass Val di Fassa-Carezza gives you the possibility to ski to Val di Fassa, that is reachable with the connection-service apposite through the Karerpass.
Obereggen is famous for the European Cups, which since 1983 have seen many champions come down from its slopes in the history of skiing: Frank Wörndl, Alberto Tomba, Benjamin Raich, Kristian Ghedina and Rudi Nierlich are just some of those who have won races in Obereggen.
The ski pass Obereggen-Val di Fiemme, part of the Ski Center Latemar at the foot of the homonymous massif, provides access to five different areas, from Val d'Ega to the Val di Fiemme: Obereggen, Pampeago and Predazzo, Alpe Cermis / Cavalese, Alpe Lusia / Bellamonte Jochgrimm / Lavazè and Passo Rolle.
The Rosengarten-Latemar area is one of the favourite destinations for lovers of Ciaspole (snow shoes). In particular in the area of Tires al Catinaccio you can find guided hikes along quiet trails through snowfields and memorable panoramas.
Approximately 100 km of cross country ski trails await the lovers of this discipline in a setting of incomparable beauty: the magnificent natural landscape at the foot of the Dolomites snow-covered in South Tyrol, that at sunset is coloured reddish that tends to purple.
In summer you can discover this area - the southern part of the Dolomites, that are declared Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO - with its spacious sun terraces and its enchanting forests, taking walks on a network of trails that is long over 500 km, or riding on one of the 800 km long trails for mountain bikes. On the well marked and perfectly maintained trails you can cross a lot of valleys and mountains, more or less strenuous paths with some breathtaking views. After walks or rides with the mountain bike you can enjoy the typical South Tyrolean cuisine in one of the shelters or in small wooden huts which in our days present themselves as places to eat.
Do not miss the old tradition of "Törggelen" whose name comes from the great press called “torchio”: in autumn, you will taste wine just fermented accompanied by bacon, Schüttelbrot (hard bread), nuts, chestnuts and many other local specialties. Numerous inns and farms invite visitors to participate and maintain this beautiful tradition.
Noteworthy are the golf clubs of Monte S. Pietro and Carezza that invite to enjoy the game of golf in the middle of woods and meadows dominated by the imposing beauty of the Dolomites.
Known place, especially for its lake, which is located at an altitude of 1534m in the high Eggental.
Obereggen is situated at 1550m above sea level and is the heart of the ski region Ski Center Latemar. This place belongs to the municipality Nova Ponente, consists of about 900 inhabitants and offers all mountain lovers a wide range of entertainment options, as well in winter as in summer.
